My students need a subscription to BrainPOP to give them a fresh look at subjects such as math, science, and social studies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin. With the help of BrainPOP, my students will be able to be more involved with their lessons and review through the use of interactive activities and quizzes.
My students come from a high poverty neighborhood where more than 75% of them receive free or reduced price lunch.
There is a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, multiple-family, foster, migrant, and military families, to name a few. Our students also come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, with a large portion being Hispanic, Punjabi and African American. Additionally, we have a large population of English Language Learners. With such diversity, it is to be expected that each student is going to have a very divergent range of personal, social, emotional, and educational needs when compared to schools that serve a more homogeneous population.
My Project
There are some days when a textbook and teacher-led examples just don't cut it for a complete lesson. Sometimes the kids just need a new, outside source to explain things. BrainPOP is a wonderful digital source to introduce and review lessons. There are many different categories ranging from Math and Science to Art and Social Studies. This subscription will not just give the class access to the videos, but they will also have access to interactive activities and quizzes. We will mainly use this subscription as a whole class. The students will watch the brief video, we'll discuss the topic as a class, and then the students will complete the interactive activities and quiz with a partner. At other times, the video will be used in small groups or centers as a review tool, where the students will watch the video in a group then complete the interactive activities that go along with it.
With such diversity in learning styles, students need to have access to multiple ways to learn and BrainPOP will be added to that list.
It will appeal to students who learn best visually, and to second language learners (ESL) with its vivid pictures and characters.
