My students need clay, acrylic paint, and gloss to create ceramic food sculptures inspired by the Pop Artist Claes Oldenburg.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Lawson's classroom raised $275

My Students
Save the arts! Remember the first time you finished a clay project, and how excited you were to take it home? This ceramic food project is an annual favorite among my students, but it is currently out of reach due to budget cuts.
I teach at an urban, arts magnet high school serving a high poverty population.
Students audition in 6th grade, and about 20% of the students who audition will gain admission for their 7th grade year.
Once in high school, students spend two periods a day in art class. The arts motivate our students to come to school every day, and as a result, we have the best attendance and graduation rate in the district. (We have a 90% graduation rate compared to a district average of 37%.)
My Project
These materials will enable us to study the Pop Art Movement, focusing on Claes Oldenburg's large scale sculptures. Students will create their own food sculpture out of clay. I do not have a kiln in my room, so air dry clay and acrylic paint will let my students experience clay despite our limited equipment.
Our students know about tight budgets; the entire district qualifies for free lunch.
Help them enjoy the experience they've earned at this arts magnetic high school by funding a project they'll remember forever.
