I love teaching kindergarten. Five year-olds have this amazing energy that is infectious. They devour stories, soak up knowledge like sponges, and always ask for more.
They love to be able to get up close and experience learning.
Each student has a unique point of view and they are eager to share with each other. There are days when they make you laugh, want to pull your hair out, or even cry. There is never a dull moment in kindergarten!
My Project
Addition and subtraction are very difficult concepts for 5 year olds to master. They need to be able to see the number sentence in picture form or use manipulatives in order to begin to understand.
The Pop and Add game is a great way to have fun and learn!
The Pop and Add game has dog bowls that the students put rubber dog bones into after they pop a die. Then they count all of the bones and answer the number sentence! Easy peasy! We are also asking for a container of dinosaur counters so the students can create their own number stories and use the dinosaurs as their counters.
