My students come from diverse backgrounds. They have varying strengths and weaknesses in the school curriculum. We have many students on the autism spectrum that are detail oriented, show an aptitude for the arts, and are very enthusiastic about all the arts and everything that it has to offer them.
They have shown their teachers that they learn best when they are engaged and having fun.
Learning about music with a hands-on approach is very important in my attempt to keep them active and engaged.
My Project
With covid restrictions still in place, children still need to move as much as they can to stay active and healthy. I have found some really great activities online that incorporate music and physical education.
With these pool noodles, I will engage the children in some active cardio desk drumming.
While maintaining the required 3ft distance and at their desks, the children will be jumping, running, and rocking out to their favorite songs while practicing basic rhythms that we learned in previous music classes.
I hope to get their heart rates up and have fun doing it!
