My students need to be able to observe how birds behave firsthand. This project will provide the habitat needed to safely house a bird in my classroom.

My Students

I teach Biology in the largest school in our County. As with so many schools, funding has been completely cut back, and class sizes are on the rise. One of my primary focuses, other than teaching content, is to make this class one in which all students learn and grow to reach their own individual potential.

My students are athletes, scholars, artists, workers, gifted, challenged, affluent, and impoverished.

Finding common ground for all these characteristics is one of my favorite challenges to undertake.

My Project

This project is one that will enhance my classroom greatly. We currently have examples of fish, and mammals in my room, but I have never been able to have a bird in my room for observation as well.

This project provides everything I will need to have a parakeet in my classroom for student observation.

Many of my students do not get the opportunity to see animals close-up. This cage will provide ample viewing, keeping both the student and the animal safe. I am excited as we start to talk about different organisms to actually have one that students can refer to that is so accessible. This project is one that will create excitement in my classroom among my students, and will support the curriculum in a new way.
