This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In talking to my students about what concerns them in their day to day lives, it is apparent that they have a lot to say about the state of the world. They are incredibly articulate and talented. They will surely excel in this project, creating their own political cartoons.

I teach Art in the South Bronx, New York.

While our students face certain hardships, they are among the most talented and inspired scholars I have ever worked with. Our school is driven to prepare students to attend prestigious universities and has been quite successful in doing so.

My Project

New York City schools are facing many budget cuts and the first things to go are the arts. We are very fortunate to still have a small art program, but can definitely benefit from the generosity of this program's donors. The arts are so important in a child's learning experience. It would be so great for the students to understand that there are many people out there kind enough to help them. My students need basic drawing and watercolor supplies in order to create political cartoons addressing social and cultural issues about which they have a lot to say.

The students and I came up with this project after many passionate discussions about how they see the world.

It is clear that they have a lot to say about their place in the world. I can't wait to see the inspired results of this project. All we need is a little help with the materials. Thank you.
