Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic, passionate and diverse. They love to express themselves, participate in teams and clubs inside and outside of school and explore different areas of our city. They are on the cusp of their elementary school career, about to embark on unique paths that will shape their lives. Their diversity is an asset to our class, providing a variety of interests, perspectives and opportunities yet also makes it challenging to meet and exceed the needs of all students on a consistent basis.
My Project
This project will use graphic novels to develop critical thinking skills and foster a conversation of points of view and interpretations of others in literature and our media today. The titles selected all involve reading about different perspectives and analyzing how individuals and their experiences were interpreted.
These texts will provide context for my students to build empathy, break down barriers and stereotypes.
The ability to access, analyze and evaluate various types of media is an essential skill that my students need to be proficient in for future success. This project will help them learn to do just that in an engaging and creative way.
