Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach fourth grade English as a Second Language students in a small rural Texas town. My students speak English, but most of them speak Spanish at home. My ESL students are hard workers and eager learners.

This year I wanted to group my books and novels according to different literature genres. As I was beginning this process I noticed that I was not offering enough poetry selections to my students. With state testing always on our minds we sometimes rush over this important part of the writing process. I would like to have a larger emphasis on poetry this year. My classroom budget is very small, taken up mainly by basic office supplies and classroom essentials. I will not have enough money left to add books to my classroom shelves without your help.

I have searched for a wide variety of books which include Newberry award novels, famous poets, and funny poems the children will enjoy. I want to spark their imagination and encourage them to write.

Your help will ensure that my students are introduced to a variety of literature. There might be a budding poet in my classroom this year.
