My Project
My students are thoughtful, curious learners who are just beginning to discover the power of poetry. Many of them have never seen themselves as writers — until now.
This project will bring Love That Dog, by Sharon Creech into our classroom, a powerful novel-in-verse that tells the story of Jack, a boy who insists he "doesn't do poetry" — until he finds his voice through writing about something deeply personal.
Jack’s journey mirrors what many of my students experience: the uncertainty of trying something new, the vulnerability of expressing emotion, and the joy of discovering that their words matter.
With these books, students will read, reflect, and write their own poetry in response to Jack's story. We'll explore themes of loss, friendship, courage, and creativity — and most importantly, we’ll build empathy as we walk alongside Jack on his emotional and literary journey.
Your support will help us put this beautiful, accessible book into students’ hands and give them the tools to become confident, expressive readers and writers.
Thank you for helping my students find their voices — one poem at a time.
