FULLY FUNDED! Ms. M.'s classroom raised $570
This project is fully funded
Our charter school serves a K - 8 population, where over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. 99% of our student population is African-American, with many from Caribbean or West Indies heritage. The students involved in this project are ages 10 - 14, 5th through 8th graders.
Many of our students do not have computers or Internet access at home. I believe this could be a huge detriment to them in their future lives. With our tech-saturated culture, I believe it is important to not only give students a good grasp of how to use web-based tools, but also the knowledge that they are not just consumers of the internet.
During this project students will be using two different types of web-based tools: a blog and a Podcast. By writing, recording, editing, and posting their Podcasts onto a blog, my students will have the chance to create web-based media.
With your support, my students will be allowed to have some important experiences. First, they will have the chance to practice their skills using web-based applications. This is important because many of my students do not have computers or Internet access at home. In addition, when this project is completed, students will not only feel like consumers of the internet, they will be creators as well. I believe this is imperative in creating a generation of adults who are innovators of new technology.
