I completely team teach with another 4th grade teacher so our classroom is bursting with energetic, fun students who are definitely glad to be back in school! These students range in ability levels but we have also agreed to host the majority of our 4th grade students with special needs. This is the best way to utilize staff most efficiently to serve all students. We celebrate inclusion in our building and our special needs population spend a majority of their day learning in our classroom.
Super excited about learning completely describes this group of students.
They seem to jump into any challenge set before them and have been asking a lot of questions about what is next. They are eager and ready to learn even though this might be a challenging year since coming of remote learning last Spring.
This upcoming year will bring its challenges but we also have some exciting new adventures to take on. Our students are ready. We can't wait to see where this year takes our class and celebrate all their successes.
My Project
Our school district has chosen to go 1 to 1 computing, which is so exciting. This offers huge learning opportunities for our students but organization will be key! Giving students a "home" for their computer within reach will be absolutely key to the success for students. Time on task is a huge concern especially during this time of COVID-19. Teachers and students are spending lots of valuable time sanitizing, taking breaks with social distancing to get mask relief, alternate bus schedules, etc. We definitely do not need to waste time going to the computer docks to get and replace computers 7 or 8 times per day. Each time a student gets a computer from the classroom docking center or replaces it sanitizing will need to occur. Students will be more likely to use their computer if access is readily available and we believe this can be achieved by using these Chair Pockets. Our students will be able to just grab their computer from in a split second and get to work.
Computers are going to play an important role in our students lives and we don't want to hinder their use by not having ready access to the device.
We want them to be excited and realize what a benefit 1 to 1 computing can be. If they have to be hindered by accessing their computer throughout the day this may take away some of their willingness and excitement to use the computers.
Finally, we want learning to be fun, innovative, engaging, and worthy. Computers help achieve these goals more efficiently if students can simply turn in their chair, grab their computer, and start to work. We are always looking for ways to make our classroom run more efficiently and we feel this is one BIG way to help!
