My Students

My students are still laying the foundation for their reading skills, and they are still learning to find a love of reading. They love listening to a story being read to them, whether by an adult or a recording.

My students are in second grade, and they are learning and growing so much this year!

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. I have never had such a diverse group of kids. Several have only been in the country for a few years. They come from a range of places such as India, China, Korea, Mongolia, the Middle East, and Central America. My school looks very similar to my classroom. We have a lot of students coming from places all over the world and from very different economic situations.

My Project

These books on cd will be put into a listening center for my students to use. They will read and follow along with a book that is being read to them. It will allow them to hear English words read out loud in the correct way. When kids listen to a story being read aloud to them, the narrator is modeling fluent, expressive reading to the kids. Read alouds show kids the connection between speech and printout will help those students who are auditory learners; these students learn best through listening.

Due to the large number of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) or ELL (English Language Learners) students in my class, a lot of these kids need much practice with reading and speaking in English.

These books on cd will give them the practice they need with reading and listening to new words in English.
