My students need two Chromebooks to keep in our classroom to aid in lab research stations and writing projects. We need to be able to look up information and research questions.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard-working and amazing. They come to school happy and ready to learn each day. They speak a variety of different languages and come from homes where there is often not enough money for food, let alone technology. Most of my students do not have the resources to support buying extras. Our school does not have the money to fund computers in every classroom.
My students are in desperate need of honing their research and writing skills.
They are motivated by technology use. I use chromebooks in my classroom to help run science labs with research and writing stations. We also use them in lieu of textbooks, as the textbooks we have are old and outdated.
My Project
Available technology everyday is my goal for our 21st century science classroom. While we currently have laptops at the school, they are often reserved for testing and large projects in other classrooms. Due to this, there are many times where we just need a couple of computers but are left with nothing. This means the lesson plans have to change and the students are unable to research, complete their lab stations, or log in to their Google classroom account.
Having technology available in the room everyday means that students can work on projects, research, and writing at anytime.
It is important that they have everyday access at school because many do not have technology resources at home. Without technology they are left with outdated textbooks to do their research.
I currently have three ipads that were generously donated to my classroom and we use them frequently. However, with 35 students in each class we need a few more technology options available, especially when we work in groups. These chromebooks would allow students to complete research in stations while other students use the ipads for computer simulation stations.
