My students need a laptop cart for charging individual laptops so they can learn. Each student is equipped with technology but limited organization is available to stay charged and plugged in for use every day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what they will discover on their own for the day. I ask them, "What do you want to learn?" and they reply, "What they want to look up and read about!" I want them to know that they are in charge of their learning and have the technology to find out and read about anything.
Many of my students sign up for after school programs, in which students are selected by lottery, just to use the computers some more and continue to learn more.
I teach in at an urban public school where 100 percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite language barriers, financial status, limited technology available at home and a highly populated school where after school programs students are selected by lottery, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school, because they want to access personalized programs on the computer to learn all they can and be successful.
My Project
The use of laptops and desktops is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math and reading. My school has received donated laptops (old, big, and bulk, but work great). For each student to have access to a laptop to use for a personalized learning model in math, students independently access lessons on with laptops for guided practice and video tutoring for strategies. The laptops allow students to access information for what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the laptops never seem to be charged, there are 4 plug-in outlets in my classroom with 6 power strips attached and cords everywhere hidden under a table. The laptop batteries slowly become drained from frequent use and inconvenient way to store them. When something goes awry, students know that they must leave their laptop, quietly read a book or find a new source for information or task to work on. Even though they are great about doing this, it is discouraging for many of my students and they miss important practice time or video tutoring for help. By having a laptop charging cart, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student's personalized learning and practice, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on their specific academic material at hand, and not whether their laptops are going to work or not. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their motivation as well as their desire to learn and use the technology!
