My students need dry erase markers so that they can practice their math on white boards.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 6th grade math and science at a high-need, at-risk, predominately Spanish speaking middle school. I have two math intervention classes where I teach 3rd and 4th grade math to 6th grade students. They need all of the extra help and support possible to bridge the gap as quickly as possible.
Due to the budget crunch, each teacher at my school has been allotted one hundred dollars for supplies.
After ordering copy paper, binder paper and pencils, there's not a lot of money left for other items such as dry erase markers. With all of the work my students do on the white boards, we run out of dry erase marker within the first month of school.
My Project
My students need a solid supply of dry erase markers to enable all students to work on math and really enjoy it also. I call it "The Competition." Each pair of students get a white board and a dry erase marker. I put problems on the overhead, they each work it out, write the answer on the white board and then hold it up for me to quickly say, "correct or try again." They then go on to the next problem as soon as they are finished.
They are very competitive and work hard at doing as many problems as possible. It is amazing to see all of my students working and working fast. I know it's because they get to write it down on a white board and they quickly find out if they are right. I am also able to easily see who is not getting it and help them right away instead of waiting to see what they don't get on the test. The more work they do the more they will learn.
It's a shame that I have to even ask for such basic supplies but we really need it.
Your help will ensure that all of my students get a lot of practice and in turn will help bridge the gap between where my students are and where they are supposed to be by the end of 6th grade.
By having plenty of dry erase markers, we are able to do a huge amount of math problems quickly.
