Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine listening to stories without skipping words or having volume problems. How great would that be? My students need to listen to stories read aloud to them to become better readers, writers, and speakers. They will also take advantage of many free educational apps.
My twenty-one first grade students are mainly English Language Learners who are all very motivated to become better readers and writers.
They are eager to learn and enjoy listening to stories read aloud to them. They would benefit from listening to stories during their Daily 5 independent work time as well. With these 2 iPod touch players, they would also be introduced to educational apps that will help them in spelling, recognizing high frequency words, word reading, and math. We are located in a small city south-east of Los Angeles, California. Our community is predominantly working class and English is a second language to many.
My Project
My students will be motivated to listen to complete stories and not have to be confused because part of the story has skipped or the CD player is not working properly. We need to give these twenty-one first graders a chance to explore and learn with up-to-date, 21st century technology. They will be encouraged to not only listen to stories but to practice skills and strategies using many apps that are available. They will learn and listen to stories as they follow along with their book to become fluent readers.
My twenty-one eager first graders will be learning with the use of 21st century technology and will be able to enhance their acquisition of the English language.
They will become better readers and writers with the extra time using the IPods, during their independent work time. Being able to use new technology will motivate my students to learn and be prepared to meet the challenges of acquiring a second language.
