My students need the Listen & Learn Phonics Activity Program to work independently while I conduct one-on-one reading sessions.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The three rules in my reading lab are:
1. Come on time every day
2. Bring your book bag
3. Believe in yourself!
Imagine being a second grade student and already giving up on yourself. If you can't read, it's hard to feel good about yourself in school. I want my kids to believe that they can succeed!
All of the children at my school live below the poverty level, and 72% percent of our kids read far below grade level.
Most of our students also speak a language other than English at home. The 36 children who come who come to my reading lab have received the lowest reading scores in grades 2 and 3. My kids all come to me as non-readers, and many have given up on even wanting to try to read. What excites me about working with these kids is to watch their defenses come down as they realize that they can be successful with the activities I provide them in the reading lab. Working one-on-one with pre-primer and primer level books, I have helped all of my students to feel successful with reading.
My Project
After I do a quick phonics writing lesson, I send the kids off to work independently while I work with each student with the one-on-one reading. I would like to use the Lakeshore Listen & Learn Phonics Activity Program to give the students an interesting independent activity that would help to develop reading skills while they wait their turn to read with me.
My kids can't afford to waste one minute of their time in school.
I would like to give them independent work that would reinforce their phonics skills. I also believe that the interactive nature of the Listen and Learn Program would minimize disruptions while I work with the students one-on-one.
