This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 24 first graders, all of which have their own unique personalities, interests, and abilities! These kids are ambitious and excited to learn! They are in the midst of their first-grade year, and they are reading up a storm! I am fortunate enough to have a large classroom library where my students can explore fictional and nonfictional texts that interest them and that are academically appropriate for their independent reading abilities.
My students' passion for new texts, their excitement and recognition for authors they are familiar with, and their desire to push themselves to the next level of text is AMAZING to witness!
It has been a joy to witness their reading skills develop, as well as their passion for reading since they first entered my classroom. I know that their passion for exploration will grow even more so in the coming months before they leave my classroom in June!
My Project
I am working towards becoming a Board Certified Teacher! This is my greatest challenge as a teacher, yet! Becoming Board Certified requires that I demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect I have on student learning in alignment with the Five Core Propositions. I must show a deep understanding of my students, content knowledge, use of data and assessments, and teaching practice. I must also show that I am involved in learning communities.
I want to continue to grow in my learning as an educator, professional, and a colleague.
I know that becoming a National Board Teacher will help me accomplish that!
