This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Give my students the tools they need to graduate on time and go to college! My students are learning English to the best of their abilities, and as English a Second Language students, they need more time and additional access points to effectively process texts. The more tools, the better!
My 11th grade students are new immigrants to the U.S., and they need extra support to get them up to speed and on track to graduate.
They are learning English as they study their other required content areas as well, including history. Our school puts a great emphasis on graduating in four years, just like the students who are born in the U.S. are expected to do. They have the expectations, they have the motivation, all they need is some extra help.
My Project
Teachers at our school design lessons that are engaging, interactive, and challenging. We do our best to get the most out of our students. The main thing that our students need is extra TIME to read about key concepts in Global and U.S. History. They can use these study cards to practice in class, in study halls, and at home. Having used these materials before, I can attest that the students who use them do better on the exams. They comment after the exam that the cards were extremely helpful in making connections between concepts and definitions, which they are required to do on the New York State Regents Exams.
