In our classroom, approximately 70% of our learning happens in a small group setting. We make it work as best we can but the addition of an easel for the teacher led portion of our small groups as well as markers for scholar use would help us use our time more wisely.
We are a Title I school where 100% of our scholars have the benefit of receiving free breakfast and lunch each day.
As fifth graders, they are new to the middle school environment and while it is an exciting time, it can also be very intimidating for them. To lessen their stress when teaching new math concepts, we use small groups created using data gathered the week prior. My scholars thrive in a small group setting and this setting is critical to my teaching and their learning.
My Project
I am requesting 1 easel, 3 pads of chart paper, 4 packs of dry erase markers, and 1 pack of erasers for small group instruction.
We use mini dry erase boards and markers daily in our classroom so the addition of new markers will be such a benefit as we move throughout the school year. Bringing a dry erase and magnetic easel into our classroom for use during small group instruction would prove invaluable as it will allow me to bring my instruction and teaching directly into the group rather than leaving them up on the main classroom white board where it is somewhat removed from their space.
These materials will benefit our small group instruction which is the main way we bring math concepts to life with our scholars.
Having a stand up easel to allow ideas and instructions to remain at the forefront of the small group even when I am assisting individual scholars will have a huge impact on the efficiency of their learning.
