Around eighty-five percent of my students receive free or reduced priced lunch. It is difficult to get them to school and even harder to get them here with supplies, ready to learn. Once they enter my classroom, my focus is on them. I am trying to prepare my students for college and the world. I am creating an environment where collaboration is strong and all students should have the tools to express their ideas.
My students come to me distracted and unengaged.
Sometimes they don't know where they are going after school that day, as their family is homeless. How many of you remember hanging your good grades on the fridge? What if you didn't have one to do that with? I have students that hang their work in my room, as that is the only place they can hang it with pride. Rewards can come in many shapes and sizes. Can you help me reward my students?
My Project
One thing that is very expensive in the classroom is the rewards. Students love to be rewarded when they are being successful. I would love to expand my reward system and try to reach more students. I have purchased "Sharkey Bucks" and now I need help funding a "store" for them to use them in and for rewards for me to hand out in class.
I have already purchased notebooks, paper, plain pencils, pens, markers, white-out, and other basic needs for the "store" in my room.
I would like to put fun items in it too! My students love stickers! They can't seem to get enough of them to decorate their stuff and their work. I would also love to have erasers, puzzles and candy that I can give out on the moment, just show them that they are awesome, because they are! Math can be difficult to feel successful in. I want my students to feel like they are doing great. You can help me, help them feel better about their skills!
