My Students
My students are curious, active children that have a strong desire to explore their environment. They come to school each day with smiles on their faces and an eagerness to start their day. All of my students require a very physically structured environment to function in the classroom.
Our classroom is a self-contained classroom with six wonderful students.
They are students with Autism, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities. We are a special school that serves multiple disabilities from ages 3-21. The students in my classroom range in age from six to nine years old. They love to interact with our smart board, listen to music, look at books, and participate in academic instruction with adapted materials and augmentative communication devices to communicate wants, needs, and answer choices. All of my students require a very structured environment to promote the greatest academic and social success. Let's give every student a chance to learn to their greatest potential!
My Project
A group time carpet will help with a physical area that will cue them to the group time area. Having this rug will help my students understand where they need to go for group instruction in the classroom.
The pocket charts of different colors with pocket chart stand will be used for individual visual schedules (photos, picture symbols, and object cards) to help students structure their day and help them succeed with transitioning through their day.
Their greatest struggle is needing a solid structure to their day and with these items, I know my students will succeed!
My students have disabilities that require items not necessarily needed in the common, regular education classroom.
These items will help them understand what happens next, give them a concept of time, and provide a visual expectation of where they go in the classroom for different parts of the school day. When we have the tools for success, there is no measure to how much students will succeed both in their academic and social lives. Thank you so much for considering donating to our students!
