This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Kindergarten through 8th grade school is located in a high poverty neighborhood in Philadelphia. I'm fortunate enough to be the lead teacher who oversees our climate. Our students struggle where most do not - recess! Recess should be what students look forward to the most.
However, our recess yard is just that - a yard of pavement.
We would like to install a basketball net so students can learn how to interact with each other! There's no money in our budget to buy much needed equipment to promote social interaction.
Our students are a diverse group of learners including an array of cultures, backgrounds, and learning styles. We are an inclusion model that supports all diverse learners and accommodations.
Our vision is that all students can achieve academic growth and a sense of community. We will communicate and collaborate with all school stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, and community partners. The instructional program will support creativity, problem-solving abilities, and networking skills for their optimal success!
My Project
Remember recess? Recess is a needed time for students to unwind, get out some energy, and learn much needed life skills of unstructured play. Currently our K-8 recess yard is just pavement. We are located in a high poverty section of Philadelphia where students don’t have many options for safe play areas outside of school. We are looking to add a basketball net so students can play, socialize, and look forward to interacting with each other. They can learn turn taking and problem solving skills. Most importantly, they can have a brain break that will allow them to get more out of our daily enriched curriculum!
