My Students
My 9th grade high school literacy students want to be their best selves as they struggle to negotiate the high school curriculum. They understand that to reach their potential they need to work hard, be resilient and see learning as a process that involves mistakes.
By working on academic literacy skills, increasing study habits and time management skills, and encouraging involvement on campus, my students will be equipped with the necessary tools needed for academic success.
They recognize that their high school education allows them choices that many of their family members may not have had in life.
But, they need to support to maximize their potential.
My Project
My students need 36 white tri-fold display - presentation boards, 40 x 28 inches, to create presentation boards for group speeches at the annual school College Fair. This event requires that pairs of students select and research a 4-year university. The purpose of their research is to gather sufficient information to create a college booth using a tri-fold display presentation board and accompanying speech.
The College Fair is the culminating project for my 9th grade literacy course and has been a moment when the light of learning shines brightly for my students (especially those who have been struggling earlier in the school year).
