My students need a tablet, a keyboard dock, and accessories to use during speech-language therapy sessions to stimulate language and enhance academic learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -- Benjamin Franklin. I love this quote because it inspires me to create new ways to teach my students in a creative, fun, and engaging manner.
I work at a Title I low income school with 1205 students.
Approximately 90.8% of students qualify to receive free /reduced lunch and many do not have access to a computer at home. Ever year, there is an increasing population of children with special needs in our school. As one of three speech-language therapists in my school, I service 55 students in K-5 twice weekly; and even some three times a week. We have additional service providers as well and we are lacking in funds for equipment, supplies, and materials that would serve beneficial for our students to excel and support their disabilities. I have students on my caseload with moderate to severe speech and language impairments with stuttering and delays in: articulation, auditory processing, receptive and expressive language skills. In addition, I service students with learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, and students on the PDD spectrum.
My Project
I am asking for assistance in funding for a tablet with accessories to be used during therapy sessions so that my students can benefit from its use academically, socially, and functionally based on their learning
styles and their needs. I am kindly requesting to acquire a tablet to be used by my students to assist in improving their speech and language skills in a new, motivating, and fun manner. Many speech and language companies are now adding new APPS to their catalogs that target various skills. I would love to download some of these APPS that target reading comprehension, answering questions, verb tenses, practicing appropriate social skills, improving memory and cognitive skills, and naming age appropriate vocabulary. Since I travel throughout the day from the main building (5 floors), outside portable classes, and the annex building a block away, a tablet is a lightweight and efficient tool to carry from one session to the next.
Your help will be assisting in enhancing learning in a fun and stimulating manner.
As Forest zdifference said, "A hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank...but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child." Please help to fund my project so that my students can continue to love learning.
