This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How many of us have pictures from our very first year in school? Wouldn't it be wonderful to look back on our first journey into education and reminisce about the things we learned and the friends we made? I would love for my students to be able to do this!
I teach 18 wonderful and creative Pre-K students in a high-need area of Brooklyn.
We recently started sharing photos in class and making class books and they love it! They are very interested in learning through photography and I think it would be great to use a camera as a learning tool!
My Project
In the past, I have used photography as a tool for teaching and the kids loved it! We had one problem though, using a delicate digital camera with young children has resulted in broken cameras! We need a tough, waterproof camera that can last for years in our class. With a camera like this, the children can use it as well as adults! We will use our photographs to create class books about our year in Pre-K and put them in the memory books we are requesting as well. We will also learn about academic concepts in real life by using photographs we take and print out to make books about shapes, patterns, our community, etc. The possibilities of how we can learn through photography are endless! And when the year is over they will have wonderful books and photographs to always remember what they learned and the friends they made in their very first year of school!
