My students need a copier/printer and ink so they can take home family literacy homework to share with their parents, many of whom are illiterate. Since Pre-k students start at the very beginning of the literacy journey, this is an ideal opportunity to engage families in learning to read and write with their children. Without a copier, however, it is not possible to accomplish this. I appreciate your generosity in helping me to realize my goal of promoting independence by making learning to read a possibility for our pre-kindergarten children AND their families.

I am fortunate to be a pre-kindergarten teacher in a high-need community in the heart and soul of New York. Our children and their families are dependent on school and other government institutions for a great deal of their needs. I would like to support our children and their families in becoming self-sufficient, and am in an ideal position to make a direct impact.
By teaching both the Pre-K children and their families how to read and write, economic independence can become a reality. I have the knowledge, desire, and skills to teach; however, my beloved old copy machine has failed, and I can no longer send home child-and-family literacy lessons.
This is why I am requesting a high-volume copy machine and ink. Given these tools, literacy can become a reality for so many, who are otherwise forced to depend on others for so much.
Listening to a story is a pleasure, but being able to read it yourself is freedom. Please help our inner-city children and their families to learn to do for themselves. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
