My Students

I teach kindergarten through sixth grade in a low socio-economic district. We are a culturally diverse area with students who speak many different languages. I have the most creative students who live for music class. They love improvising and making up their own music. They are very respectful of all of the classroom materials and consider it a privilege to use these tools. They love working together and sharing ideas. They live for the enrichment of music class. Our music class is a safe space where every child can be themselves.

My Project

This year and in years past my students have been seated on rubber dots on the tile floor, plastic chairs, or even half and half. My goal is to have all students seated comfortable with the least amount of furniture possible so that movement activities can occur more frequently.

Comfort and versatility can be better achieved with a rug that fits all students and gives them adequate space to move around.

Help me make sure that all students have a comfortable place to sit and allows them to move around!
