Playing With a Purpose

My students need dramatic play furniture to enhance their social-emotional skills. My classroom style is learn through play; students pretend to be families and community helpers. We can also change dramatic play according to learning themes.

My Students

At AES, we foster a community of students with strong character and high self-esteem who display critical-thinking skills that will enable them to become life-long learners. Our staff members and parents work together to educate more than 600 children in grades Pre K-5th. Our school is considered a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free and reduced-rate lunch.

My classroom consists of 17 amazing and imaginative students.

Each student is unique and brings vivacious energy to the classroom. Out of those 17 students, seven can identify their all letters of the alphabets, and five can count to 100.

My classroom is a learn through play class where students not only learn academics, but social and emotional characteristics. We have a dramatic play area, but no furniture and few manipulatives.

My Project

Learn through play derived from the belief that learning is a lifelong process in which learners construct knowledge through interactions with their physical and social environments. Through "hands-on, minds-on" learning experiences, students in learn through play classrooms attain deep understandings in the core content areas, while they also learn to work collaboratively with adults and peers in vibrant learning communities enhancing their social and emotional characteristics and personalities.

The kitchen and living room style furniture will enhance social-emotional growth through pretend play.

Having dramatic play furniture and pretend play toys, costumes and manipulatives will enhance student learning, understanding and social-emotional growth.
