My students need these games in order to build a positive social-emotional environment in my classroom. Through play, students will learn how to age appropriately grow together. This will pave the way for new friendships.

My Students
Intertwined in my classroom are students who come with various learning and developmental disabilities. I am a fifth grade self-contained educator in Brooklyn, NY. Throughout our academic day, my students are continuously on a journey building their knowledge and comprehension skills in all academic areas. In using hands on STEM activities and constructing engaging academic tasks, my students come in everyday motivated to learn new things.
All of the students in my classroom come from diverse socioeconomic environments, but despite this minor setback all of my students show in their own unique way a passion for learning.
As they grow as a community of learners, it is essential for them to be provided with engaging content and educational tools that will help them grow academically. As a teacher, they have taught me how to be diverse in my instruction, as it is required of me to help them with their individual needs. It is my goal to give them everything they need to continue on their path towards academic success.
My Project
Building a sense of community within the classroom has been one of my goals moving into this new school year. One way to achieve this goal is providing my students with a strategically placed time at the end of the academic school day for my students to just be children and interact with one another through social games. As academic achievement is at the forefront in my classroom, I do also invest in my students' social-emotional development with the same passion. In having these games, I want my students to connect with one another positively and appropriately. Further, in having these games will also develop my student strategy skills that can be utilized in other areas outside of play.
