My Students

My students are incredible! My students are in first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hard-working, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with a disability. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. All of my students come from high poverty areas and all of my students love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensures this.

My Project

I would love to have the opportunity to send this highly engaging and extremely fun strategy game home with my students to play with their families. This game will be used at home with support from me in school. I will train families on how to best utilize the game and explain to them how their child/children will benefit from playing it regularly. This game supports higher order thinking skills and the geometry common core standards.

During parent teacher conferences, I often suggest this game for families to play together but often they do not have the means to purchase it for their family.

The premise of this game is strategy based - for the players to find sets that are all alike or all different. The game forces you to think flexibly about the cards and strategically about which three cards could be grouped together at a time. I think the learning from this game will certainly translate to the learning that takes place in the classroom by fostering the idea of thinking flexibly and having fun with family and friends!

SET builds cognitive, logical and spatial reasoning skills as well as visual perception skills while playing a game! Because it has a rule of logic (three cards that are all the same or all different in each individual feature), and because players must apply this rule to the spatial array of patterns all at once, they must use both left brain and right brain thought processes. This fun game actually exercises your brain!
