Playground Gross Motor Fun!

My students need equipment to practice and develop their gross motor skills on our playground.

My Students

Gross motor skills give young children the ability to run, walk jump, roll, skip and hop. Some statistics say that approximately 15% of students attending elementary schools experience motor difficulties. Many studies have found links between poor motor skills and academic success. Our school needs to provide opportunity to develop and practice these skills in kindergarten. Our playground needs more equipment to do so.

According to the authors of Child Development Perspectives, "Gross motor skills are a critical part of children developing social competencies and physical well-being, and are a gateway to engagement in learning and social activities, including sports and games, throughout the school years,."

My Project

Developing children's gross motor skills in kindergarten is an important part of our curriculum. Students will use these materials daily to develop and improve these skills.

Providing students with the opportunity to play while practicing a specific skill promotes physical education and overall student well being.

Our students will enjoy using the trike, scooter, tunnel, balls, activity mats, and hoops daily. With these items, students will be engaged more at recess.

Materials will be stored in our locked shed where students will have easy access for their daily use. They will also learn responsibility as they will be in charge of taking them out each day.
