Playful Puppets for the Music Room!

My Students

We are a small, rural community with hard-working students who need assistance with acquiring resources. Elementary music is provided for every K-6 student in our district, and we are expanding our high school music course offerings as well.

Our K-5 students are excited to come to class each time and are constantly asking, "When can we play instruments?" Our current inventory was salvaged from past classrooms, last used over fifteen years ago, and our school is working hard to update it to fit our current needs.

To build up our new elementary music program, we are asking for your help! These students deserve the same enriching opportunities as those in other parts of our state or country.

The music room is a unique place for collaboration and where we can achieve great things together. It is my goal to inspire the passion of making music as a community, and what better time than now! These students deserve the best!

My Project

Students may feel self-conscious about using their singing voice, especially if they've never used it in front of their peers. These puppets will make it easier for students to be engaged in making music without the fear of judgement. Having a puppet sing for you lets young students forget to worry about what they sound like, and aids their journey of vocal exploration. Starting in Kindergarten and first grade, we work on using the singing voice as opposed to speaking voice, and singing alone. The more practice they have early on, the more confidence they build and the more likely they will continue singing in fourth and fifth grade.

These puppets will help students become more involved with singing.

The fun of being able to use a toy and play a game makes the singing less stressful. The larger hand puppets help engage the whole class during music activities through stories taught through play instead of simply by rote. Help us make our music classroom more colorful, playful, and engaging!
