My Students
I teach in a Title 1 School in Maspeth, Queens, New York. Art supplies are low on the list of necessary supplies. However, creating art instills and motivates students to learn!
My students come from many different backgrounds including Poland, Ireland and many countries in South America.
They come to school motivated to learn and eager to please! Some come with brand new backpacks and supplies while others find it difficult to have all of their supplies on day one. However, all students arrive eager to learn new things!
My Project
My second graders will learn about the landforms in our world. As a culminating activity, students will create their very own landform with the play dough requested. My students will present their landform and name the specific characteristics of the landform.
Students will learn about landforms including locations and how landforms are developed over time.
They will then create their very own landform from the play dough requested here! When students create something based on information they've learned, they become truly motivated and take ownership of their own learning. It's such a pure joy to see this motivation in the classroom.
Think back to your days as a student. I'll bet your happiest memories were when you were creating something.
