This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When students learn to improvise on an instrument, they develop skills that allow them to become lifelong participants in music.
This course will give me the tools to confidently teach jazz improvisation to our beginning band members.
Started in New Orleans Jazz is America's most original and unique art form. The musical blending of African, Caribbean, Spanish, and European styles created an art form that is now globally revered. By expanding our band program to include jazz improvisation, our music curriculum will become more responsive to the cultures and lived experiences of our students. By learning to play music pioneered by people who looked like them, my students will develop a positive sense of identity. Musical improvisation allows individuals to express themselves. I can't wait to share improvisation skills with my students but could use some additional training.
