Play Together now...Work Cooperatively in the Workplace

Help me give my students the cooperative learning fun they crave! The Lakeshore Learning games I’d like to receive allow my students to practice reading comprehension in real world situations.

My Students

My 3rd graders want to work cooperatively with a partner or with a small group daily! When a student works with a partner or small group, many of life's "real world skills" are being practiced such as problem solving, listening to others, sharing materials, helping others with tasks, and taking responsibility for various tasks.

In August 2017, many of my students were affected by Hurricane Harvey and used many of these real-world skills in their homes and communities.

They worked alongside family members, neighbors, and acquaintances in the community to demolish, clean up, and rebuild affected homes. Seeing first hand from a child's perspective of how working together can really benefit a community, this will help them understand the importance of doing the same in the classroom! It takes a village!

I want my students to have the opportunity to apply what they learned/witnessed from our community pulling together during Harvey, and use those same leadership skills in our classroom when working together.

There's nothing more valid then using "real-world" situations to drive your attitude and work ethic!

My Project

My students love to work in pairs and small groups when their independent work is complete. At this time in my classroom, most of this work includes task cards, reading comprehension games, and solving puzzles, which the students call it "playing",

Playing together as kids, helps to establish collaboration and communication skills, alongside problem solving techniques which are so important to have!

During this "play" the kids learn problem solving, listening to others, respecting other's opinions, sharing materials, and taking responsibility for a specific task.

Help bring more reading comprehension games, task cards, and nonfiction activities into my third grade classroom. Making learning fun, is one way to keep the students engaged, while practicing the collaborative skills needed for the future!
