My Students

Do you remember playing games as a kid? The fun and enjoyment? Well, my students have limited access to games outside of school and having these games in the classroom will provide the fun they are missing while encouraging a different way to learn necessary reading skills.

My students attend a Title 1 school in a high needs area where they receive free breakfast and lunch each day.

My students have multiple learning disabilities and attend a self contained special education class to fulfill their individual needs. They are motivated to learn but do not have the appropriate resources/materials in order to enjoy learning. Many of these students live in poverty and have limited or no exposure to games and fun outside of school. Fund this project and my students will have games with a purpose!

My Project

Literacy is the key to education and if we can encourage and motivate students to improve these skills at a young age they will be more successful later. These reading games will help students improve fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and social skills. Students will have the opportunity to hunt for hidden treasure as they read for details, race through skateboard park predicting outcomes,attend the kooky carnival while using context clues, follow direction at the star power premiere, and use sequencing skills at adventure camp. Playing games is a low stress break from the regular routine.

Fund this project for games with a purpose and you will be giving disadvantaged students a fun filled way to develop comprehension skills as well as encouraging much needed peer interaction.

These action packed challenging and motivating games will give my students the chance to improve their reading skills and encourage necessary interactions between peers.To us these may be just games but to my students they are a step to future success.
