This project is fully funded

I teach 4th grade in small, rural school. We are always struggling to keep up with the other schools in our district. A few years ago we had an organized sports program that many students participated in through the county recreation department, but lack of funding closed this program in our community. We also only have a PE teacher 3 days out of the week.

We have 30 minutes of recess in our schedule everyday where students can run around and play with their classmates, but I often see many of them sitting around the play area. The reason many of them do not play is the lack of equipment. We have two basketball goals and only one basketball for 45 4th graders. We do have a football, a kickball and a foam ball which is only a total of 4 for the whole grade. The 48 5th graders come out during part of our recess and do not have any balls, so of course we share with them. Sometimes there are 15 students waiting to kick the ball in a kickball game.

I know if we had more equipment to use in the play area we would see more playing and less sitting, waiting for a turn or arguing over balls. I would like to have some jump ropes, scoop ball sets, cones for relays or bases and more balls to get the kids active and enjoying their recess time.
