Play, Our Favorite Way to Learn!

Help me give my students play based learning opportunities that they can enjoy!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Wood's classroom raised $389

This project is fully funded

My Students

I teach kindergarten at a Title I school in Illinois where 93% of our students receive free and reduced-price lunch. My students are energetic, curious, and eager to learn. While my students are eager to learn, they still love to play and pretend. Play allows students to use their creative imaginations to explore and problem solve.

My class consists of 24 energetic kids ready to learn.

Of those 24 students some receive special education resource services, speech and language, and social emotional supports. All of my students have many different interests and hobbies, but one thing they all have in common is the desire to play.

My Project

I am asking for dramatic play materials including a cash register, food, and garden set. These materials will be used to create dramatic play opportunities for my students that allow them to engage in purposeful play. Play promotes creativity, imagination, research, and builds oral language skills. Through play children develop the necessary social emotional skills to be successful in the classroom and in their daily lives. They learn to recognize other people's feelings and emotions and use that to appropriately interact with others. Play helps children to become problem solvers and work through disagreements with peers.

Albert Einstein once said, "Play is the highest form of research."

I will use these materials to create real life purposeful play opportunities for my students such as a grocery store, restaurants, veterinarian clinic, hospital, construction site, etc. My kindergarten students will have the opportunity to role play where they can assign and accept roles in order to pretend. Dramatic play will help build my students confidence, creativity, communication and problem solving skills. Play makes learning fun!
