This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I believe there is power in the imagination and play. This is what sparks and fuels creativity and enjoyment in the creative process! In addition to our painted pictures, colorful collages, and other mixed media masterpieces, I would like to introduce a building center in the art room that will allow students freely create without consumable materials. I want to offer an opportunity for my students to tinker with materials that will help them exercise their mind's eye to visualize a creative city made from colorful magnetic blocks; challenge their design skills arranging various shapes to create a new image; enhance their knowledge of famous artists and their through play with a memory game; and be inspired with books that share the stories of young architects and inventors.

Maria Montessori once said, "Play is the work of the child".

My goal for this project is to bring the wonder of creative play into the art room that will not only enhance their creativity, but also support their social skills, giving them a variety of sensory, physical and cognitive experience. These materials will be enjoyed by students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
