Play It Forward: Gear for Great Behavior

My Project

Starting next year, I will be taking on a new role as the In-School Suspension (ISS) teacher at our school. In this position, I will be responsible for supervising students assigned to ISS, ensuring they remain engaged in their academic work, and supporting their continued learning during their time away from the regular classroom environment.

When we reward positive behavior, we don't just reduce suspensions—we empower students to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

I have proudly served at this school for the past nine years, and during that time, I’ve noticed a recurring pattern: a significant number of students frequently receive suspensions. In response, I am eager to implement a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) incentive program specifically designed to recognize and reward students who consistently stay out of disciplinary trouble.

Many of our students are involved in athletics like football, basketball, softball, track & field, football, etc. I believe a highly effective and relevant motivator would be to offer rewards that support their participation in these activities—items such as sports equipment, gear, or event-related privileges. By aligning incentives with students' personal interests, we can encourage positive behavior and help foster a stronger, more engaged school community.
