Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Maria Montessori once said, "Play is the work of the child," and these words could not be more true in early learning spaces. This year, I have a bustling and energetic class of 30 kindergarteners. They all have very diverse needs, but they demonstrate such a willingness to learn and love for one another and their classroom.
The best way for me to manage and meet the needs of 30 unique learners is to build independence!
I am hoping to have play-based learning as a structure of instruction in the classroom. Students will have hands-on, fine-motor ways to interact with numbers and letters in meaningful ways. This will allow me to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of individual students.
Quality learning also necessitates explicit, teacher-facing instruction as well. This is especially true when thinking about literacy and teaching students the foundations of reading.
My vision of instruction is that I will only be teaching at most, 15 students at a time. While I have half the class with me on the carpet for direct instruction, the other half will be rotating through centers that will reinforce the learning they have engaged in with me. Such a process requires a lot of set-up and A LOT of organization.
I have tried to be intentional about asking for materials that I know will have multiple functions and allow for long-term use such as counters, letter puzzles, markers, high-interest building toys, and bins for systems of organization.
