My Project

My students constantly inspire me to think outside the box and become better at what I do. Whether they realize it or not, they constantly remind me to look at the world through their eyes as five and six year olds. (I like to think they keep me young.) Over the years, I have seen a lot of changes in education, but one thing that has not changed is that Kindergarteners NEED play to thrive. When play is incorporated into our daily schedule students blossom into creative and kind individuals.

As the world around us has become increasingly dominated by screens and technology, I have become convinced that developing young minds through play is vital.

As the late Fred Rogers once said:

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

To facilitate the kind of "serious learning" Mr. Rogers talked about, I have requested high-quality and durable toys that will enrich my play centers. My hope in choosing durable toys is that they will stand the test of time and provide learning opportunities for my students for years to come.

The blocks, Play-Doh, and other building toys are intended to encourage creativity, gross and fine motor skills, and engineering. The kitchen, market, and dolls are meant to develop imagination, language skills, and friendships. I hope you will consider helping me give my current and future students opportunities for "serious learning."
