This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are in 2nd grade... they're 6 and 7! In the first weeks of school, it is so important to build community within our classroom and get to know each other organically to strengthen our learning family for the rest of the year.
For students to have the chance to truly play during rotations enables them to problem solve, use kind words, share, and use their imaginations!
Technology can take so much away from those interpersonal skills and it's so important to break up our day with changes for organic play and exploration.
As the stations get more focused on current math skills and literacy needs, I will use these games in a meaningful way: the whiteboard will become a 'number of the day' math tool, we can have a stem challenge to create the tallest lego tower, magnatiles can become an incentive for a student with a behavior chart, and the life cycle models will act as a learning supplement in the spring!
