Play Dough - a Powerful Hands-on Tool for Kindergarteners
Help me give my students the gift of hands-on learning with a play dough center that can keep students engaged while increasing fine motor skills, social skills, and the skill of creativity!
For many of my students in our Title I school, opportunities to use this simple but effective tool is often limited to our classroom. Hence my students are always eager to use this manipulative when it is available. Because Kindergarten is an exciting time for learning and hands on exploring, I believe I must find and provide tools that can help to keep my students engaged in their learning environment.
It is so exciting to see how my students become engaged and creative when using this tool and to form letters, numbers, and other objects that demonstrate their ability to think outside the box.
It is also exciting to observe them as they proudly talk about their creations, and share how those creations are connected to the lesson that we may be working on at that time.
I would love to give them opportunities to continue to be excited about learning as they are given tools to support their excitement.
My Project
I would like to create a Play Dough Center where my students will be able to practice their social skills, strengthen their fine motor skills and increase their ability to create objects that are related to ongoing lessons. This center will also be used as a calming area for students as the need arises.
My project is to secure play dough and play dough tools for use in the play dough center.
Because my students usually become engaged and excited when using play dough, I am seeking to increase ang strengthen their creativity, imagination, hand-eye coordination, literacy and numeracy skills.
I am eager to place this tool in the hands of my students because I know it will yield very good results for them.
