This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ah, recess! The freedom to play with friends, run with abandon, learn new games, play ball and swing to the clouds! For many students, recess and PE are the highlights of their days.

Next year, I'll be switching grade levels, from kindergarten to second grade.

My second grade students need some outdoor play equipment to use during recess and PE, and I have none to offer! The students at my school are diverse in culture and economic status. Many students at my school receive free or reduced price lunch, and for some of them, their only meals are the breakfast and lunch that they are served at school. In second grade, students are at an age where learning is becoming more independent and challenging. My second grade students will also be taking standardized tests, which will add new challenges. To burn off energy and stress, my students need to get some exercise!

My Project

Recess and physical education time are essential parts of students' days at school. For many students, the physical activity that they get in school is all the activity that they experience during the day, and they need the exercise. Unfortunately, more children than ever before are being classified as overweight or obese, thanks to video games, non-stop television and junk food diets. These children need to learn healthy habits early, and what better time to teach them than at school? By providing my students with a variety of balls, jump ropes and hula hoops, you will be increasing their choices for physical activity during recess. These balls, jump ropes, and hula hoops will also be used during physical education time to play games such as kickball and soccer.

If students learn healthy habits during their early elementary years, they will be on the right track to becoming healthy adults.

My students need to get moving, and you can help! By giving my students new play equipment, you will be offering them some fun and engaging ways to get some much-needed exercise! Thank you for your consideration.
