My Students
My students are from the inner city of Washington, D.C.! The school has more than 80% of its students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. We are a school that strives to serve low-income families to the fullest extent.
Every day that my students walk into the room, we are reminded to leave our worries at the door and get ready to learn.
We love to dance and sing. We love listening to characters take on new adventures and we love making connections to the world around us!
My Project
I plan to modify all of the familiar board games that children love to play to help them practice letter and number recognition, counting and sight words while playing in cooperative groups! Using flash cards and rote memorization can become boring and not very engaging for children. Combing fun games and important literacy and math skills will keep students engaged and practicing concrete skills in a way that they will want to engage with every day. One example would be using the Lucky Duck game. I can write lowercase and uppercase letters on the bottom for students to find and match.
