My students need 5 Venus Flytraps in a test tube using plant biotechnology techniques.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. K.'s classroom raised $586

My Students
During the past years since state testing is the big push for schools, many key areas have suffered. Science instruction has become more difficult because of the lack of funding to purchase supplies for labs. Many of the resources we have are not current techniques being used in many schools today.
The students that attend the school come from diverse backgrounds.
Many of the students are engaged in the class curriculum. The students would take advantage of all the opportunities that they would be provided. Funding for science has declined and the students need a better lab-based curriculum to prepare them for high school and a possible career.
My Project
Learning to grow plants in test tubes will introduce students to biotechnology. This is an area that has increased in job potential over the years. Many areas of science use the techniques in this lab to culture different types of organisms. The lab might inspire students to pursue a career in biology.
Endangered species of plants are being grown in sterile test tubes to keep the species from being taken from wild populations.
Teaching about endangered species and what is being done to preserve the species is an important concept for students to learn.
