Planting the Seeds of Knowledge With a Literacy Garden!
My students need EarthBoxes, soil, and garden tools for an outdoor space where they can read, create and explore! This Literacy Garden will provide students with a much needed green space on our campus.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At most schools, green space is at a minimum. This project will allow students to create a place where they can cultivate a garden and create an inviting environment where they can engage in the three R's: read, research and relax!
Our school is small (approximately 350 students), which is not the norm in California; with an amazing and supportive principal.
We have a very large campus for a school of our size but there is very little green space. My students are eager to learn. Their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible to enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more.
My Project
One of the first projects we will do this upcoming year is to revamp and expand a garden bed space adjacent to my classroom that was abandoned by a former teacher at the school. There are 2 existing raised beds that have not been cared for in years! Our plan is to replant and replenish the area by adding additional planting boxes and make it a place where students can go to read, conduct research and relax! We will plant seeds to grow plants that will attract butterflies, plant vegetables and fruits and create a space that not only our classroom will use and enjoy, but the whole school community as well. This much needed green space will enhance our school environment and help our campus begin to "go green".
By contributing to this project, you'll be helping my students begin to "Go Green." In addition, you will help us create a space for students that will not only beautify the campus but will provide students with an area that will enhance the science, mathematics and literacy.
