Planting the Seeds of Kindness

Help me give my students 2 plant stands with grow lights so they can be more successful starting seeds in the classroom!

My Project

Each of my students has experienced trauma and all encountered challenges during their earlier school years. Despite this, my students are some of the most empathetic and insightful teens that I have ever seen. Incorporating social-emotional learning throughout the curriculum is essential for their success.

Last year, my business math students created a business (or what is more like a not-for-profit organization) they called The Kindness Act.

The mission of The Kindness Act was to celebrate happy occasions, provide support for challenging times, and welcome new staff and students to our school community. It has been a success and I am planning on continuing it with each of my future business math classes.

With this project, the students learned how to organize fundraisers to raise the money necessary to carry out their mission. The most successful fundraiser was the Mother's Day Plant Sale. The students all loved the hands-on aspect of the project and enjoyed nurturing the plants from seed. They quickly realized that our classroom didn't have the best lighting for growing plants, and we could be more successful if we had plant stands with grow lights. They are looking forward to this project and I am in need of help getting the funding for the plant stands. Thank you so much for considering our project!
